Kindergarten at Home - Day 12 - Obstacle Course for Math Sorting and Classifying

Lesson 1 - Active Activity: Running... through an obstacle course!  First, she had to crawl, then go through the big "O", then jump over the "water" (colored puzzle mat pieces), then zig-zag and run between the cones...

Lesson 2 - Math: Sorting and Classifying by size.  I decided to combine the Active Activity and Math together to make this lesson more fun (she also did some math workbook exercises on the subject).  At the end of the Obstacle Course, I had scattered various pairs of items that were the same size, and she had to find them and return them to the starting line... then repeat until all of the same-size items were matched up.  She got a gold medal at the end for getting them all back safely to the starting line.

Lesson 3 - Science: My Body - Growing Up
To get ready for this lesson, I gave her 4 pictures from the Connections Academy workbook (that were arranged in random order) of a toddler standing, a baby braced up to sit, a baby crawling and a little kid.  I told her to go ahead and cut them out and I'll be right back to tell her what to do next. When I came back she already had them in order from youngest to oldest and glued into the book before I even had the chance to tell her what they were for or explain the lesson!  I didn't even tell her about the subject today - Haha! Hopefully these workbooks aren't slowing her down rather than teaching!  Hmmm, I think I need to add some difficulty here.

Then, we got out the large Yard Stick that we use to mark how tall she and her brother are each year.  She always loves looking at each mark on the stick and how short she was before, and how "cute" she was when she was only one year old!

Since she is still "small enough", we met up with one of our little friends for a play date at the local amusement park for their Discount Kiddie Ride Wednesday (unlimited rides on the Kiddie Rides in the park for only $6.50, and parents are free!) followed by free milk and cookies, and a story time with the park's mascot.
Ahhhhh, the beauty of homeschooling is that we get to go fun places for "recess"!

Lesson 4 - Language Arts: Keep Kinetically Knocking Kk's, Kindly Knowing Kerning
Read, "Now I'm Big", which is a story about different kids and what they used to do and look like when they were babies, and what they do and look like now that they are "big kids"!  I asked her if she thinks it is better to be a baby, or a 5-year-old, and she said, "it is WAY better being five, because she gets to do fun school work!"  AWWWWWWWWE!
Then, it was Rhyme Time! We wrote out a list of words that Rhyme, then I had her try to read them.  This helps her to recognize same ending sounds.

Lesson 5 - Technology: Cyber Security - Viruses.  I explained to my daughter that if you open an email or click on a link from an unknown person or company, that it can make the computer very sick.  We talked about how it is the same as if someone who is sick sneezes, and then you breathe in the virus, and the germs spread through your body to attack it, making you sick.  The same can happen to a computer, and we'd have to call the computer doctor to come and fix it (actually, Daddy can fix most of the computer bugs, but I wanted to make it into more of a relateable story).
